The Artists' Gallery

Frederick, MD

The Artists' Gallery in downtown Frederick is proud to present "Inspired Recent Works" - new work inspired by old - a solo show featuring new paintings and monotypes by Jan McIntyre Lamb for the month of February with an opening reception on Saturday, February 3, 5:00 - 9:00 pm.

Jan McIntyre Lamb's new work - oil paint on wood panels or wooden boxes - is inspired by old culture, architecture and artifacts from Cortona, Italy, a small town in Tuscany where the she studied. Light and shadow - the contrast of intense color and shadowed blackness - highlight these new works. Her paintings glow with a saturated warmth that could easily be imagined on the facades of ancient buildings found at dusk in the sun-dabbled villages of Tuscany.

She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in 2000 with a concentration in painting and printmaking. Her prints now are mostly monotypes - a very painterly-like, one-of-a-kind print - and collographs.
Her work has been shown throughout the Washington/Baltimore area over the past 15 years. Jan Lamb is currently on the faculty at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center, a member of the Frederick County Art Association, and is involved with Go Figure Frederick, a figure drawing workshop.

The Artists' Gallery features paintings by Jan Lamb February 2nd through 25th. The Artists' Gallery is a cooperative of artists located at 4 E. Church St. Frederick, MD 21701. Gallery hours: Fri. - Sun. 12-5pm. Call 301.696.8187 for info.

The opening reception, Saturday, February 3, 5- 9 p.m., is free and coincides with the Downtown Frederick Partnership's First Saturday Gallery Walk.
